Convert PDF to an editable Word document
PDF to Word turns a PDF into an editable .docx document that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, and Word on phones. It is the tool to use when you need to change the wording of a document you only have as a PDF.
Your files are processed inside this browser tab and are not uploaded to Maher PDF. The OCR feature downloads a text-recognition engine the first time it is used; your file stays on your device. Please read the Privacy Policy before working with sensitive documents.
The converter reads each line of text along with its font, size, weight, and colour. Where it finds a clear table grid it rebuilds a real Word table, and embedded images are carried over. If a page has no text layer, as with scanned documents, it reads the page with OCR (English) instead. The OCR engine is downloaded from a public code server the first time it's needed, so that step requires an internet connection; your file itself is not sent.
How to use PDF to Word
- Tap Choose a PDF to convert and pick the file.
- Tap Run. Progress is shown page by page.
- Open the downloaded .docx in Word or another editor and review it.
Key features
- Font, size, bold, italic, and colour kept for each line.
- Real Word tables rebuilt where a clear grid is detected.
- Embedded images included.
- Automatic OCR for scanned pages.
Supported files
Input: one PDF. Output: a .docx file. Complex layouts (multiple columns, text boxes, merged table cells) are approximated, so plan to tidy the result.
Privacy and security
Conversion runs in your browser. For scanned pages the OCR engine is downloaded to your device, and the recognition happens there.
Common problems
- The layout isn't identical.
- PDF stores positioned text, while Word uses flowing paragraphs. Each line becomes a paragraph, so expect to adjust spacing and line breaks.
- A scanned page came out blank.
- OCR needs an internet connection the first time, and very faint or skewed scans can't be read. Try a clearer scan.
- Text in another language is wrong.
- OCR is set up for English. Pages that already contain real text convert correctly in any language.
Tips
- If you only need to change a few words, Edit PDF may be quicker than converting.
- Step-by-step advice is in the PDF to Word guide.
Frequently asked questions
Can it convert scanned PDFs?
Yes. Pages without a text layer are read with OCR. Accuracy depends on scan quality.
Will tables be editable?
When the PDF has clear table lines, the converter builds a real Word table. Irregular tables may come out as lines of text.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser.
